This collection contains a transcript of the comments of four doctors who served as student doctors under Dr. Charles Holloway at Grady Hospital. These four witnessed the fire and assisted patients both at the scene and in the emergency room. The first doctor interviewed was unnamed and arrived at the hospital emergency room at four in the morning. His account includes details on how the hospital's lack of space and small staff made it difficult to handle the large amount of fire victims entering the emergency room. Dr. Wall, Dr. Hooper, and Dr. Kendrick were the other three student doctors interviewed. Their accounts discuss how they assisted at the scene of the fire by helping people from the hotel cross a ladder to the adjoining Mortgage Guarantee Building. While they helped a few survivors cross the ladder safely, most of the people they recovered were already dead from smoke asphyxiation or severe burns.
